I just updated the ubuntu kernel with your update manager. My system will not boot either. It stops after, "firmware upload complete" most likely related to my high definition kworld pctv115 card. in 2.6.24-12-generic it boots up just fine and I cannot understand what is going on. This is a serious bug! I saw the last line under 2.6.24-16-generic ->recovery. It will not go further after "firmware upload complete"
