Gerry, thanks for following up. Here are instructions to recover the log files;
Once you have logged in to the commandline run the following commands sudo aptitude install pastebinit This installs a program called pastebinit which allows you to send a file directly to a public pastebin on the web which can then be recovered. To do this run the following commands pastebinit -i /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log pastebinit -i /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log pastebinit -i /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log Each of those lines will return a URL. Write them down and post them in this bug report.
