I also have no system sounds using an Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Movies and music play fine.
As for malaeum's comment about the Analog/Digital Output option, if I de-select it I lose all sound. I did a upgrade from Gusty where I had system sound working. I looked in my syslog and couldn't find any alsa errors.
