I can confirm this bug and the solution posted above. In my case I had to do: cp /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu.orig.dpkg-new ~/.config/menus/applications.menu And I used to have ubuntustudio Gutsy and removed it just before upgrading in order do a normal upgrade of ubuntu-desktop.
