I've done a small bit o testing, and it seems my project requires both 
python-vte and xorg to be installed.  
python-vte pulls in all the gtk packages that I'm using, and also the python 
interpreter.
xorg provides the basic graphical environment for a gtk app.  

I tested this on a debian minimal installation, and the project worked,
albeit, it didn't look very good, and you could drag the window
anywhere.
