Ahh... Okay, so this tells us something very interesting. pam_ldap.conf hasn't existed since Feisty. There, it was part of the libpam-ldap package. What distro version are you running on the system where you've seen this problem? And was it upgraded from a feisty system? Actually, those are general questions to anyone on this thread.
