Bruce, If you took a look at the patches, you'd see that "hacks" already existed in the theme engines' code (in Murrine and Ubuntulooks, at least) specifically for Firefox 2. Removing said hacks fixes the problem with button borders (GtkButton) but not text boxes (GtkEntry) in Firefox 3.
