@Till Kampeter: The firmware wasn't installed previously. I haven't paid close attention, but I think hp-setup was part of the sequence. In the sequence, I was asked for my password.
This is what I did: - Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 with all updates processed - I installed HPLIP Toolbox (Applications - Add/Remove.... - HPLIP Toolbox) - I turned on the printer - I waited until it was recognized by Hardy (couldn't do anything with it of course, because no firmware) - then: System - Preferences - HPLIP Toolbox - then the sequence started. As I already said, I think hp-setup was part of it. Some stuff was downloaded and installed as well; I suppose that was the firmware. -- [Feisty, Gutsy] MASTER: HP LaserJet 1000/1005/1018/1020 don't work because of missing firmware https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
