FYI: The same exact problem happens when trying to enable restricted drivers with ATI (fglrx). I didn't the oslib.py mentioned above, but looking at another users suggestion, I used synaptic to install the latest fglrx driver and THEN used jockey-gtk to "enable" it... which worked.
