Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 with a GeForce 6600V graphics card thats using the Nvidia restricted driver. My two screens are a Dell M991 and a generic LCD panel. One of them is on a DVI port that is converted to VGA, and the other one is on a VGA port. I start the Screens and Graphics GUI and set up my M991 as the primary display and the generic LCD as the secondary display, extended to the right. Both monitors are set to 1152x864 at working refresh rates. I know this configuration works because I tried it in XP and it works using the Nvidia Control Panel. I expected them to work just like in XP, with one screen having all the panels and the other just a background, and the mouse moving between the screens on one edge. Instead, both desktops started panning, as if the software resolution was 1152x864 but the screen resolution was 640x480. When the mouse moved to any edge of the screen, the whole screen would pan over. If I panned all the way to the right, the mouse would go over to the secondary monitor, and start panning over there. My friend said he installed the Nvidia Control Panel from the Nvidia website and his monitors worked just fine.
