Compressed with lzma (the best compression available, which isn't available on the desktop cd btw) openoffice debs by themselves (not including its java dependencies, etc) take 94MB of space which means it is way too big to fit all of openoffice and its many dependencies onto a CD including other things needed for Ubuntu so parts of OOo have to be left off. There probably will be no way to ever make it work perfectly on a CD based release. Ubuntu might eventually (though there are no current plans) switch over to DVD releases at which point this problem will be resolved.
