Got exact same problem (but I have nvidia card). I only just made a clean 
install of today's (march 28) hardy-desktop-amd64.iso image, downloaded a few 
packages with synaptic and decided to try gdesklets, and that's it. Downloaded 
it and installed from synaptic, and it crashes when I try to run it from menu. 
I attached the crash report. Running from the terminal gives me the following 
output:
