I read my own comment and noticed that on the first resume the device was disconnected while the system was being suspended. I experimented and noticed that the bug always manifests itself if the device is plugged in at the moment the system starts to suspend, and never when the device is plugged out before issuing the suspend command.
Also, when the device is not recognized, suspending the system without running lsusb causes the device to be recognized.
