I attempted to boot the amd64 install cd in live mode and came up with the same results.
I then booted the kernel from GRUB without the "quiet splash" options at the end, and the kernel booted correctly. I also built the 2.6.24.4 kernel via the Git Kernel Build instructions. This kernel also exhibits the same problems.
