This still happens on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 Beta with all updates to date on my HP nc8430 with a 15" 1680x1050 widescreen display (and ATI mobility radeon X1600). Although the image is not as badly stretched as in Feisty/Gutsy. So improvement, little by little.
