Confirmed here. I was just trying it out, but I later decided I didn't really 
need it, so I gave up.
Is there a verbose or debug option? That could he us find out what's going on.
However, vmware-server is not and Ubuntu package, so it will be more difficult 
to fix. Try apt-getting vmware-player.

- After upgrading dapper to edgy I uninstalled vmware server to reinstall

  it so the necessary modules could be recompiled.
  
  Well, did not work however. I get 100% CPU load when I try to start it.
