This patch solved my problem with wrongly mapped keys. I am no kernel-hacker,
but it also seems odd that locale specific mappings are done in the kernel
anyway. This is my first official kernel-patch, so I have no clue of what to do
to get it merged in the Ubuntu kernel?

Eric,
I managed to compile a kernel with your patch applied and it solved the
"virtual keypad" problem for me. I hope you will be successful in getting it
applied to Ubuntu kernel.

Mario,
I managed to change the pb_fnmode to 2 and it solved the 'fn' key problem for
me. The other behavior might be default for Mac users, but I am not a Mac user.
I just bought this nice keyboard for my PC, so it seems very odd to me that
'F*' keys must be so difficult to use. Well hopefully someone will regain their
senses and realize 'F*' keys are used for so many tasks in Linux...
