I haven't had time to lookup the changelogs/mail lists/source code comments in ALSA to see why this driver doesn't autodetect a joystick port by default.
I remember reading a post in the ALSA mailing list about this a long time ago (something about consistency with other drivers) but I haven't been able to find it. As soon as I have some free time, I will working on getting an answer to your question. In any case, it cannot be expected of a beginner to know that he/she needs to open "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base" and add "options snd-ymfpci joystick_port=1" to get their joystick to work. There should at the very least be a warning somewhere in the documentation or at boot time about this. -- snd-ymfpci: Default setup leaves gameport disabled on Yamaha sound card (+ solution) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
