Perhaps is it related not only to ATI but also to Thinkpad. The majority of people touch bit it does have a laptop from thsis brand. (Mine is a Thinkpad Z60m).
I know that you cannot install on windows the ATI catalyst version but you have to use the Lenovo one's... ps: by the way I saw exactly the same things than Nick.
