I am still experiencing the problem with 8.04 beta, everything fails
same as before (boot from livecd, choose English, choose try without
installing, see marquee, see progress bar go almost all the way to the
right, and then the problem occurs). However, afterwards, I was able to
login with CTRL-ALT-F2 and use the command line. When I try startx, I
get "no screens found error". Therefore, I really looks to me like
johnwren was right about this bug being a red herring.

My computer is an Averatec 3255, a relatively old AthlonXP notebook, not
64-bit in any way.
