I was able to get into the system by choosing the original OS install
from the grub boot menu.

After this happened the OS came to the log in prompt. I logged in OK.

Then I noticed that the HOST drive which used to be called host now says
"160.0GB Media".

I also noticed that the sound does NOT work. The sound icon shows a red
X.

The network adapter (the actual ethernet wired port) does not work. It
shows the animated icon in the system tray as if it were attempting to
acquire a network address. Since the network doesn't work I can't
communicate with the other network shares.

I can't move the mouse cursor at all.

And I get a message about a crash report.

The keyboard does appear to work,so I can shut it down.

Since the mouse doesn't work there's little I can do to operate the
computer.
