The bug is still present in Hardy Alpha 6. A workaround is to use the fbdev driver in xorg.conf - this way X uses the framebuffer, which knows how to handle this video chip correctly, at the expense of acceleration. This was reported way back when at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=301082. Hope it helps.
