My best guess is that this is indeed a dupe of 176377, which is actively in progress upstream (requires someone who can reproduce to git bisect down to the cause). But the error numbers don't match exactly, so leaving separate for now. When a fix for 176377 becomes available, we can re-test.
The workaround for 176377 is to downgrade to the 2.1 intel driver (shipped with Gutsy).
