Public bug reported: Setup: Dell Vostro 1500, Core 2 Duo, nVidia GeForce 8400M (not currently used) Installed Hardy alpha 6, KDE4
To save someone 5 minutes of head scratching, I'll repeat: that's KDE4, not KDE3. However, looking through the /etc/init.d/kdm script, I see references to kde3, so not sure ... Symptom: Monitor goes completely black (not even anything on ttys) when I stop KDM. I have to restart KDM to get use of monitor back, even for ttys. Steps to reproduce 1. Ctrl+Alt+F1 -> go to tty1 2. login 3. $ sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop ... screen goes blank, nothing can be seen ... ... Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't help ... ... Ctrl+Alt+F7 doesn't help ... I suspect the only problem is the screen because I can get back: 1. Ctrl+Alt+F1 -> Make sure we're at tty1, where we've already logged in 2. $ sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start -> This is not echoed because screen is off 3. After a long few seconds (15 maybe?), screen turns back on and I'm presented with KDM Greeter screen. This bug may be related to bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/102719 , but isn't exactly the same because that bug appears to at least have a blinking cursor. My screen completely turns off when KDM isn't running. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- stopped kdm yields no monitor output https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
