D'oh! Never mind. Apparently the updates which came through today pushed me dangerously close to filling up the disk drive. It may be appropriate to add some kind of warning when the drive space gets below N% and an update is requested.
The issue is basically user error, and aside from the potential enhancement of warning that it will happen or handling it better, the issue can be closed.
