I seem to be having the same or a similar problem. I'm running gutsy ubuntu with everything up to date. I am also running synergy. I originally had a different bug that appears to be at least partially documented elsewhere of vmware not picking up the shift key when using synergy. Then, I also got this bug where my control key is stuck down. It doesn't affect any of my other computers that are hooked up through synergy though.
