Public bug reported:

Upon finishing a clean install of Hardy, running all current updates and
rebooting afterwards, I had no menu bars at all anymore.

Oddly enough, I could fix it by simply rebooting. Killing xserver wasn't
sufficient, I actually had to reboot my system.

The only thing I had done before the reboot after which my menu bars
were gone was try to adjust the time in the clock in the menu bar which
resulted in locking up the whole menu bar. I was forced to reboot.

Related to this bug probably at some point was that my garbage-bin
vanished from my menu bar. Also here a simple reboot fixed the issue.

Clearly these things shouldn't ever happen.
