Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules
I have an HP Pavilion dv5000 and a ASUS A6Tc. Both have the same wireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) Using restricted drivers in Unbuntu, Debian and other systems ( = fwcutter) results in the computers to freeze. This happens with all the Ubuntu versions which include the possibility of self-configuring restricted drivers, including Hardy Alpha6. The freezings are more frequent and more severe with the newer versions. I solved the problem under Debian Lenny in the ASUS computer. I have tried several solutions and the only one that actually works is compiling and using NDISWRAPPER. I tried all alternatives in the HP computer with Hardy Alpha6 but nothing works (freezings with fwcutter and no wireless with Ndiswrapper). The ASUS computer has an NVIDIA graphics card whereas the HP has an ATI. The ASUS has a double-core AMD Turion processor (I use 64 bit kernels) and the HP is 32 bit (AMD Sempron). ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Broadcim Wireless card BCM4318 crashes with restricted drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202921 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
