I'm not sure that I agree with Timo's assessment. I am experiencing this problem of a white screen after switching with the fast user switcher. I can type my password into the blank screen and the login is successful.
However, I am using the proprietary nvidia video driver that gets installed by the restricted device manager. So the issue seems to be independent of which driver is used.
