It's actually a preference whether to iconify on close. Are there any reproducible steps for this problem? I haven't encountered it myself, but I'm wondering if there's something I could do to test it out. If we can reproduce it, we can file a bug upstream too.
(Also, soxs, an strace isn't useful--at least to me--but could you follow the instructions here to get a good backtrace? http://banshee- project.org/Debugging.
