Ok, then it means that 2) the Grub Error 15 you got is not a bug if you
did not let grub install.

It sounds very strange to me that you can boot when you install with the
alternate CD and not with the Live CD, these releases are supposed to
install exactly the same files. Can you still try to look if your hard
drive has some bad blocks? Same for the Live CD, can you use the "Check
cd for defects" option to make sure your CD is not damaged?

Also if you can reproduce the problem with busybox, can your boot your
computer without "splash" and "quiet" and take a photo of your screen
that shows exactly all error message you get?

Thanks for keeping active on your bug report, it is really appreciated.

** Summary changed:

- Cannot finish install of Hardy alpha6
+ Can't boot after the installation of Hardy alpha 6 from Live CD only

** Description changed:

My hardware: Dell Inspiron E1505 / 6400 laptop with 2.0 gHz Intel
DuoCore 2, 2 GB RAM, ATI X1400 MobilityRadeon graphics

I can run the Ubuntu Hardy alpha6 LiveCD just fine. I can run the
installer, and the install completes. However, I cannot perform the
first boot. When starting up, I get the Busybox screen. I have tried
adding the ircpoll parameter to the kernel line in grub, but this did
  not help.
+
+ When I install alpha6 from the LiveCD booted as the first boot option ("try
ubuntu without making changes to your computer"), I have had this problem:
+ After install, but before first boot, corrupted restart screen. Upon boot,
the system goes Bios -> Grub -> Ubuntu Splash Screen -> Busybox cli
+
+ When I install alpha6 from the LiveCD booted as the second boot option
+ ("Install Ubuntu"), or when I install from the alternative disk (not
+ LiveCD), then I get a perfectly displayed restart screen, and the system
+ functions properly upon all boot attempts.
