With the help of sjoerd on irc this problem was tracked to be a bug in pulsesink with powerpc. Debian already has a patch for it since over 2 months ago, in gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio-0.9.7-2 - but it wasn't synced to ubuntu for some reason. I manually built it on my system and it now works great. Please sycn 0.9.7-2 version into ubuntu
