After two weeks with this workaround I also did not run into any problem so far (on Gutsy). TTYs and suspend to disk are working as usual (the TTYs have a higher resolution now of course). On Hardy I could not test suspend to disk so far but I quickly checked that TTYs seem to work as expected.
