I mailed the driver contact at Intel with a link to this page and to their bugzilla link I gave above, just saying that a lot of people had problems and were keen to contribute to a fix if we could.
I got a mail back saying:- "A community member recently backported a fix for RX overrruns in the ipw2200 driver. I assume the same problem may exist in the ipw2100 driver.
