I guess if it still happens with latest Hardy Alpha LiveCD I would report it
upstream (http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html) and post the

[gutsy] Closing the lid will crash the system no matter how the gnome power
manager is set, but system (Dell X300) will suspend/resume just fine in any
other way.
