I tried the firmware download from the backported hplip in gutsy
(2.7.12-0ubuntu2~gutsy1) . It fails with the following error in the
terminal:

warning: I/O timeout
error: Firmware file '/usr/share/hplip/data/firmware/hp_laserjet_1020.fw.gz'
not found.

I checked and I didn't have a /usr/share/hplip/data/firmware/ dir, so I
created it. Same results.

At last, I followed the getweb instructions above (actually, the script
posted) and it worked fine. I just had to turn the printer off and on
again. This is a 1020 model.
