Public bug reported: I download a fix that left my system unable to update. I have seen bug references in Launchpad Ubuntu regarding linux-ubuntu- modules-2.6.22-10-generic. I tried to purge this from /var/lib/dpkg/status by using dpkg -P -a, but this did not work according to the man page. I manually purged the entry, and I can now update.
