Binary package hint: kopete
My wife uses kopete with MSN. she says that some times she can
correctly use the web cam but other times it does not work. It seems to
work once then the next time she goes to use it it does not work(could
not establish connection...or some thing). we closed and reopened
kopete and also tried to restart the system. that did _not_ make it
work. Then randomly the next day it was working again. but after that
time it stopped working again. During all of this time the CAM works
perfectly in other programs like Ekiga.. ect. So I think that the CAM's
drivers are working fine.
Also note when I can't connect to MSN's webcam "meeting/session thing"
the kopete webcam configuration dialog seems to work perfectly(except in
one case where the configuration dialog showed a "frozen" cam frame(but
even then the configuration dialog(not the "meeting/session thing") was
'fixed' after restarting kopete))
I updated to the kopete package that in in hardy hoping it woudl fix this.. no
luck :(
currently i have installed:
Qt: 3.3.7
KDE: 3.5.9
Kopete: 0.12.7
uname -a
Linux mike-desktop 2.6.24-8-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 14 20:40:45 UTC 2008 i686 GNU
Also note that in my testing of this with kopete and Amsn it seemed to
work correctly all the time... the problem might be in the 'actual'
windows MSN clients using a slightly different protocol(but I am not
sure about this). but I don't use MSN; so this is mostly coming from my
wife's experiences here.
