I was running Aptitude to fix some dependency problems and it crashed
when I told it to remove "libxklavior12". Libxklavior12 conflicts with
libxklavior11, which is a dependency for many parts of Gnome. Synaptic
couldn't remove it--it did nothing when I selected unmark or the "fix
broken packages" command. I suspect that the package maintainer forgot
to add the necessary conflict tags to the packages, but that should not
make package managers crash. Could it be a typo that is causing aptitude
(or the underlying structures, as Synaptic and update-manager are also
affected) to behave erratically if?
