Hi Just accidentally fixed this
What I had done was go to tools -> options ->files->templates->edit and added /user/home/julianb/MyDocumments/OpenOffice/Templates where I keep them. Much to my surprise they failed to appear, they normally showed up no problem in previous versions. In the end I went to the template manager and realised there was a command called update, and that made the templates display. I feel this sort of thing that should automatically be run on the addition of a new template path, it took me quite a while to figure this out.
