Terribly sorry, but I've uninstalled ubuntu. Had the same problems with other 
distro's, so it's not a specific ubuntu thing apparently. 
I'm running linux (fedora) under windows in virtualbox for now, with sound :-)

It's no use to have a system where you can't use the sound, nowadays,
so...
