It happens maybe 30% of the time. I'm using the i810 driver on both my laptop and my desktop, and I've experienced this problem with both. My desktop is running Feisty and my laptop is running Gutsy, and I've been experiencing this problem for quite a while now. Another strange thing is that the problem can occasionally come and go within a single OO.o session by closing and opening windows (without shutting down all OO.o windows).
I haven't isolated any sure pattern, but it seems that this problem occurs after I use characters with less common diacritics used for Arabic transliteration (ĀāĪīŪūḌḍḤḥṢṣṬṭẒẓᵓᶜ). Strangely, these are always displayed correctly, but their presence may be causing other (more common European letters) letters to display incorrectly. Also, I've noticed that there is little consistency in which characters are replaced by which random characters.
