The getgnulinux.org site is nicely done, but I don't think it has anything to do with "making sure people who try out Ubuntu will keep it".
Linux and GNU software are important components in Ubuntu, and anyone who wants to get involved in Ubuntu development will soon learn about both of them. But many people who use Ubuntu will not encounter them, and there's no reason they should need to.
