Do you still experience this in Gutsy? There was a kernel bug fixed in
2.6.22 (which is the kernel version used in Gutsy) that should make most
instances of this problem go away (see the Linux kernel mailing list
thread at http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/27/370).
