I was having this problem with my dual xeon system running on gutsy using kernel 2.6.22-14-generic and nvidia-glx driver - I upgraded to hardy alpha 4 per the advise above and am still experiencing the random hard locks with the newer generic kernel and nvidia-glx driver. I can't use nvidia-glx-new because my Quadro FX 1400 card is too old. Should I try Envy? Would rather an apt solution. Any other news/advise on this issue? Am currently slumming in windows xp land and would like to get back home to ubuntu land. ;)
