I have had this happen about 4 times since I upgraded to Edgy-beta a few days ago. I also get periodic "Package cache corrupted" errors.
1. Opened Synaptic: sudo synaptic 2. Reloaded package indexes, got: "Could not download all repository indexes" with details: "http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy/universe/source/Sources.bz2: Could not open file /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_edgy_universe_source_Sources - open (2 No such file or directory)" 3. The status bar on the bottom shows: 0 packages listed, 1762 installed, -1217650096 broken, 142028664 to install/upgrade, -1217650096 to remove; 0B will be used. 4. keep clicking on various categories/filters(which show nothing) changes the nonsense numbers. After bit, some non printable characters/garbage starts to show in the status line. 5. Quit Synaptic. It asks:"Quit and discard marked changes?" Note that I marked no files. 6. Terminal shows: bzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly; perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows. bzip2: Resource temporarily unavailable Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout) It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted. You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files. You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files. (synaptic:14603): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() 7. Run synaptic again. Reload. Close. Open. Reload. Install updates. Notice the status bar problems again, but nothing on terminal. -- Synpatic exhibits flakey behaviour after clicking "Reload" button https://launchpad.net/bugs/49864 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
