That's correct.  Though actually, at least with rhythmbox, once I've
played a sound I actually have to quit rhythmbox to prevent the problem
occurring.  So:

 - If I've never played any sound, and I suspend/resume, no problem.
 - If I start rhythmbox, don't play any sound, then suspend/resume, no problem.
 - If I start rhythmbox, start a track playing, then suspend/resume, the 
problem occurs.
 - If I start rhythmbox, start a track playing, pause it, then suspend/resume, 
the problem occurs.
 - If I start rhythmbox, strart a track playing, quit rhythmbox, then 
suspend/resume, no problem.

I'm happy to try anything that'd help pinpoint the problem.
