Just another FIY and this time a rather short one :P: Filed a bug about KWin in KDE's bug tracker as I am now completely convinced that every aspect of the here described behavior is a problem of KWin's handling of "tray icon windows" (or maybe more generally QXEmbed widgets, but see the report linked below) and its communication with the system tray applet; and because I want this one to be fixed ;) It seems to be not related to adept, ubuntu or any specific window manager like compiz.
