This is not actually a duplicate of bug #44897.  The nvidia-settings
source package also provides a nvidia-settings binary that needs a
.desktop file.  This package is only useful for people using the legacy
drivers.  On the other hand, it may well become moot if bug #72979 can
be addressed, but this likely waits for some other mechanism to support
the older nvidia cards.
