More info on this. I looked through the apt.log and found that the
scripts seems to have a problem with the package openoffice.org-l10n-mr-
in. Removing this package seemed to move things forward.
However, this failed again with the error that it {edubuntu, ubuntu,
kubuntu}-desktop was not installed. (sighhh..) So i installed that and
it came with loads of dependencies which i okayed.
Ran update-manager again. Here's what main.log has different in the end:
